Install Argon

Argon is installed from source with Cargo. The argon package provides four executables: arc, argonc, argone, and argon-analyzer.

Prerequisites

  • A Rust toolchain with Cargo.
  • VS Code 1.100 or newer, and Node.js with npm to build the extension.
  • Git.

Install

cargo install --git https://github.com/ucb-substrate/argon --locked argon

Or, from a local checkout:

cargo install --locked --path crates/argon

Check that the tools are on your PATH:

arc --version
argone --version
note

The Rust versions the project is tested against change over time. If an install fails, check the CI configuration in the repository for the versions currently in use.

Set up your editor

The extension is built from a checkout of the Argon repository. Building it also builds the GUI as WebAssembly, which needs the wasm32-unknown-unknown Rust target and a wasm-bindgen CLI matching the wasm-bindgen version in Cargo.lock. From the root of the checkout:

rustup target add wasm32-unknown-unknown
cargo install wasm-bindgen-cli --locked --version "$(cargo pkgid wasm-bindgen | sed 's/.*@//')"
cd plugins/vscode
npm ci
npx @vscode/vsce package
code --install-extension argon-*.vsix

If code isn't on your PATH, install the .vsix file from the Extensions view instead: open its … menu and choose Install from VSIX….

The extension runs argon-analyzer from your PATH. To use another executable, set argon.analyzer.path.
